Best of ART 234 Digital Photography - Part I

Welcome to ART 234 Digital Photography. I am one of two students who have a point-and-shoot camera in this class. The rest of the students went out and purchased an expensive camera for the class or already had one. I'm using my Mom and Dan's cam that has many more bells and whistles than mine does so I'm still trying to get used to it. My first mistake was taking pictures that were underexposed due to not catching a setting that was wrong. This assignment, we were to stick to only Auto or Program mode. I chose Program so I could control the flash.

Flowers for Betty

In 2008, the city cut down one of the trees (I'm assuming it was diseased) between the sidewalk and curb in front of the duplex. Last spring, Betty decided to plant some flowers there, but they never really took off. Since Betty and Willard have been gone for the past few months trying to recover from their car accident, I decided to plant some flowers. But of course I couldn't just buy a few flowers, stick them in the dirt, and call it good. I decided to put in some landscape edging and shovel up a more circular shape.

Reece and I made a run to Walmart and made the purchases on my very tight budget. A $5 shovel, $7 landscape edging, $1.50 pink flowers of some sort (the only thing I searched for was "full sun" flowers that hopefully do well in drought), and 5 packets of different flower seeds for $1 per packet. Wish I could've done more starter plants, so I'm crossing my fingers that the flower seeds will take off. Hopefully they won't all take off because I put about 90% of the seeds in the soil.

As I was getting ready to break ground, the neighbor lady came over and told me Betty is coming home tomorrow. What perfect timing!!! Sadly, Willard is not doing so good right now. He caught an infection a couple days ago and has been spiking a high fever. He had to be hospitalized the other night and he hasn't been eating. I will be praying for him and for strength for Betty.

I wish I would've taken the 'before' shot last week before I pulled up the weeds. The three plants in the center have hung in there when Betty planted last year.

I wish I would've had my camera near for Reece's first experience with earth worms. He wouldn't take them out of my hand but thought they were really cool. He kept wanting me to find 'really, really big ones'. There were one or two well fed worms to show him.

Betty will probably ring my neck when she realizes I planted a few colorful sunflowers in the center that could get up to 4' tall or higher. It'll be worth it. :)
