RE: Enforcing Policies in the Workplace

"...what we usually seek in the workplace is cooperation, NOT compliance. There is an important distinction between those two that is often forgotten. Employing coercion, threat, and guilt increases resistance, not only to the specific demand for change, but also to the whole change process. REMEMBER . . .You can force compliance, you can purchase compliance, you can even weedle others into compliance, but compliance is NOT cooperation. “Just because you have silenced a man, don’t think you have converted him.”

This was a response for the Stanford Prison Experiment, http://www.prisonexp.org, that we studied in Ethics class. The question wanted to know how you ethically gain compliance from employees to follow the company policies... I found the above response from another student interesting. It's a fact that you can't please everyone, so policies don't go over well with some... and how to gain 'cooperation' is tricky.
